John Morningstar joined Wellspring in 2007 and became a Partner in 2011. John is a member of Wellspring’s investment committee. He has been involved in a number of transactions over his 20+ years in private equity and during his tenure at Wellspring he co-sponsored or led transactions including Cleaver-Brooks, Prolamina, Thermasys Corporation, API Heat Transfer, Qualitor, ProAmpac, Coatings Excellence International, Hoffmaster, SupplyOne, Paragon and Steele Solutions and played a significant role in the firm’s stressed/distressed credit investment vehicles (Spring Capital I and Spring Capital II). He is also actively involved with Resco Products.

John focuses primarily on the manufactured products and consumer sectors and directs the firm’s Packaging investing effort.

John previously spent seven years with Castle Harlan, where he worked in a diverse group of industries including packaging, consumer products, plastics, metals and restaurants, and served on the boards of a number of Castle Harlan portfolio companies. Prior to joining Castle Harlan, John worked as an investment banker at Merrill Lynch & Co., where he assisted clients with corporate finance and strategic mergers.

John received his BS from the University of Virginia and holds an MBA from The Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania. He is currently a trustee of the Jefferson Trust of the University of Virginia.  He lives in Greenwich, CT with his wife and two children.
